Self guided Bike tour along the Nemunas Delta and the Curonian Spit in 7 days 


 

This tour offers a great opportunity to explore Klaipeda, the Curonian Spit and the most popular Lithuanian seaside resort Palanga whilst riding a bicycle at your own pace. Most cycle tracks are asphalt lanes that stretch along the Baltic coast, with several miles-long rides in the forest or on country roads. This is an even-surface trip with several hills and slopes only.

The smallest number of participants – 2 people.

This is an individual self guided tour that includes accommodation, luggage transfers and transfers, according to the programme.

Bicycle rent is not included in the basic package, because some travellers come with their own bikes. However if you need a bike, we can offer one according to your preferences (mechanic or electric bike, carrier bags

Day 1. Arrival in Klaipeda

Meet and greet with the guide. You will pick your bikes and additional equipment (if booked) the guide will give you a brief introduction about your upcoming trip. A walking tour around Klaipeda with the guide.

Day 2. Klaipeda-Palanga-Klaipeda

You will leave the hotel on your bicycles and ride all the way to Palanga (around 34 km one way). The cycling path stretches across the Seaside Regional Park. On your way, you make a stop next to the largest slope of Lithuania called the Dutchman’s Cap. You will continue riding to Palanga, the most popular seaside resort in Lithuania. It is home to the historic Tiskeviciai Palace and the Amber Museum. Travellers enjoy leisurely walks along the pedestrian promenade which leads onto the pier to the sea. Ride back and an overnight stay in Klaipeda.

Around 60-70 km long bike ride round trip.

Day 3. Transfer to Rusne, cycling in Rusne to Silute and Kintai.

In the morning you will have a transfer to the Klaipeda region of Memelland.

Today’s bike tour will start in Rusne on the biggest Lithuanian island. This island is surrounded by the Nemunas delta. The Lithuanian-Russian border is located at the approximate middle of the Neman/Memel river. Rusne island is known as the capital of smoked fish, therefore, we recommend trying some freshly smoked fish. After cycling around the island, you will go towards Silute town. Silute is known for its German heritage and H. Sujo’s mansion’s buildings. After visiting these landmarks you will go to Kintai. On your way there you will stop by the Aukstumala swamp which was mentioned in the world’s first scientific monograph.

An overnight stay in Kintai or Silute (subject to availability).

Around a 50 km-long bike ride and about a 60 km long bus trip. Luggage will be transferred to your accommodation.

Day 4. Cycling from Kintai to Priekule, Dreverna, Vente horn.

After breakfast, you will continue your trip on bikes around Klaipeda region. This is fishermen’s and surfers’ land. From Kintai you will proceed to Priekule, a small town with German roots. Afterwards, you will reach Dreverna, a popular leisure place and a charming small ships harbour. After climbing the observation tower, admire the views of the Curonian Lagoon and sandy dunes. Continue on forest roads towards VentÄ—. You will visit one of the oldest bird ringing stations. In the afternoon a boat trip to Nida over the Curonian lagoon.

An overnight stay in Nida.

Around a 50-60 km bike ride and about a 1 hour trip by ferry to Nida. Ferry trips are subject to availability due to irregular schedules, the departure location may be changed or replaced by a transfer in case of bad weather. Luggage will be transferred to your accommodation.

Day 5. Nida

Today is all about getting to know Nida – the pearl of the Baltic coast. You will have the chance to visit the great Parnidis Dune, the summer residence and museum of the Nobel prize-winning author Thomas Mann and the local amber gallery, old fishermen cemetery and the museum of a historic artists’ colony. After lunch, it is time to take a dip in the sea or a pleasant walk around Nida.

Day 6. Nida-Klaipeda

Nida-Klaipeda. This part of the trip involves a bike ride along the Curonian Spit on an asphalt cycle track on the coast of the Baltic Sea. On our way we will visit the so-called dead dunes, a spooky cormorant colony and the Hill of Witches. Subject to weather conditions, you will also have many opportunities to take a swim in the sea at one of our pristine white sand blue flag beaches. 

An overnight stay in Smiltynes Jachtklubas or similar.

Around 50 km long bike ride. Luggage will be transferred to your accommodation.

Day 7. Departure
Individual departure or extension of the trip.
