Throw yourself into full Lithuanian affair while meeting craft makers and ancient tradition keepers in this five days weekend break. This is a tour for those who want to get a real hands on experience on local culture.

We make sure you will visit the most important historic and cultural sites in Vilnius and Trakai to tick off your bucket list. But that’s not all - you will get out to real stunning nature in Aukstaitijos national park and visit real local people to learn the art of their craft and skills.

This tour includes a guide/tour leader during the whole trip and transportation by a minivan or a car.

Itinerary

Day 1.

Arrival to Vilnius. Private airport transfer to your hotel. This is a day to get accustomed, relax and self explore.

Overnight at 4 stars hotel in Vilnius.

Day 2.

Vilnius Walking tour with a visit to ceramic workshop.

In the morning we will show you our charming capital Vilnius and tell you all those great stories behind the cobbled streets and beautiful baroque facades. Vilnius is known for its more than 1.200 medieval buildings and 48 churches many of them you will see while walking in the Old Town.

The tour will continue to Uzupis, a self proclaimed independent republic within Vilnius city boundaries, which was established twenty years ago by the local artists. Walking tour will take around 2,5 hours.

After your tour you will visit a ceramic workshop to meet the local craft makers that have mastered this ancient art. You will be introduced to an everyday’s life of pottery maker and get to know about tools and materials used to make a piece of ceramic. You will even get to try working with clay yourself and get into potter’s feet.

In the evening you can opt for Lithuanian Historical dinner at the restaurant Ertlio namas.

Day 3.

Day trip to Trakai and traditional kybyn making culinary lesson with kybyn tasting.

In the morning you will visit Trakai, our historical capital and will admire its medieval castle build on the island of the lake Galve. It is also the only historical national park in Europe. Trakai takes a great pride from having been the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania although the Grand Duke ruled from this area only for a couple of years in 1321-1322. Even after the move of the ruling family to Vilnius Trakai remained an important city, the capital of one of the several Voivodships of Lithuania from 1375 until the 18th century.

Trakai is definitely a must visit place for foodies because of the local specialty – Kibinai – brought to us centuries ago by Karaim people from Crimea. After the historic and sightseeing part of the tour you will have a unique chance to learn making this delicious local specialty. And of course eat it after the cooking class - which is the best part. Do not forget to take the recipe with you!

In the afternoon you can opt for another specialty of Lithuania - local sauna with guidance ant treatments of professional sauna man.

Day 4.

Day trip to Aukštaitijos National park. Ancient Beekeeping museum visit. Traditional sakotis cake making workshop.

During this day you will have a day trip to Aukstaitijos national park - the oldest national park of Lithuania. You will admire stunning sceneries with many lakes and forests. You will visit ancient beekeeping museum and learn about the beekeeping craft and get to know why bees are so important in Lithuanian culture.

The second part of the trip will be an absolute sweet tooths’ paradise. You will learn to make sakotis - our traditional unique looking hollow cake with spikes that no celebration or feast gets away without. You will take a part in the art of making sakotis and get to spin the wheel on the fire yourself. After the workshop, the tasting of your freshly baked masterpiece is waiting, of course.

After coming back to Vilnius, evening at your leisure.

Departure. Private transfer to the airport. See you next time!
